Suddenly, someone opened the front passenger seat and attacked the police officer. Christie looked in the vehicle’s side mirror and saw her father pleading for help.”

The news item added that the victim’s wife wanted to tell her husband about their daughter’s dream and to warn him but she ignored the impulse thinking it was just a dream.

Questions
There are several questions that come to mind regarding this story. First, what are dreams, and why do they occur? Second, how can dreams tell us what is going to happen beforehand? And third, can the victim have been saved if the wife warned him?

We spend one-third of our lives sleeping. And dreaming is one of the main activities during sleep. A dream has been defined as “the language of the subconscious mind.”
Our subconscious is a vast store-house of information, not only of past, but also of present and future events.

There are many reasons why we dream. Sometimes, a dream is merely a carryover of waking activities and concerns. Other times, it conveys an important message about our health, relationship, job or other personal matter. But there are times when dreams warn us of future events, like what happened in the above case.

How is it possible for a dream to foretell a future event? Of course not all dreams are of this nature. But, according to the beliefs of Australian aborigines, “before an event actually happens in our waking state, we first dream of it.”
That’s why they pay close attention to their dreams and do not ignore them, unlike us so-called more “civilized” ones. I think we have much to learn from the aborigines.

The third question is the most difficult to answer: Could Bocalbo’s death have been prevented if his wife told him of his daughter’s dream?

Of course, if his wife called him and he heeded the warning, then the killing would not have taken place that day. But would it not happen at all?
Sometimes a foreseen or predicted event can be prevented; sometimes not.

Unpreventable
Let me cite two examples, one local, the other foreign.

During the time of President Ferdinand E. Marcos, a psychic reportedly warned him that the plane carrying his son Bongbong would crash. The plane had already taken off. The President asked the plane to return and his son got off.
The plane resumed its journey. As we know, that plane did crash, killing almost everybody on board, including Bongbong’s best friend, the son of Judge Serafin Camilon (By the way, in a Playboy Magazine interview, Marcos said he had an intuitive insight the plane would crash and not because he was warned. I don’t know whom to believe, the psychic who told me about it or Marcos. Both are dead now).

Question: “Why didn’t Marcos ground that plane if he knew it would crash?” He couldn’t. If he did, he would have been the laughing stock of the world. He couldn’t prove it would crash, until it actually did. So he just asked his son to get off.

In the second case, Edgar Cayce, the late American psychic and prophet, was waiting for an elevator. When the doors opened, he saw four or five persons inside. He stepped back to indicate he was not getting in. The elevator doors closed and shortly afterwards the elevator crashed killing all passengers.

Question: “How did Edgar Cayce know that the elevator would crash?” He said when the elevator doors opened, he saw the people inside had no aura anymore (the aura is the life force that every living being has). For all practical purposes, therefore, those people were already dead.

Another question: “Why didn’t Cayce ask the people to get out?” Answer: Who would believe him? Those people were as good as dead and there was nothing he could do about it.
Same thing with the plane crash. The people in the plane were already doomed. Marcos could not have prevented it.

Should we therefore just let things be and do nothing when we dream or see something bad is about to happen? No, we should always try to warn people of impending danger or accident when we foresee one, because there are times when foreseen events can be prevented.
This is when their completion depends on the will of man and is not yet completed on the astral or spiritual plane.

Note: For inquiries on books, paranormal services and seminars on Inner Mind Development, ESP and Intuition Development, and Soulmates, Karma & Reincarnation conducted by this writer, please call 8107245, 8926806; fax 8159890; e-mail innerawareness_2005@yahoo.com.ph.
RSS feed @ http://dreamclips.blogspot.com/atom.xml

Soft Nightmare

Is there such a thing as a soft nightmare? I guess it's what you would call an awfully scary dream that didn't make you shriek or cry, and didn't make your heart jump off your chest.

The effect of the dream strikes when you wake up, and remember what you saw.

Then, you tell yourself, "God, it couldn't happen."

They're both asleep in one room. Peaceful. I've already seen her dead earlier! Not again :( I tried to ignore that dream but it comes to mind ever so frequently.

And now the universe sends me this new dream.

Maybe her dying in my dream only means she's starting a new life. In truth, she is. And I pray that she gets what she came there for.

Another soft nightmare

Soft nightmares are more difficult to deal with than heart-stopping nightmares that makes you sick in your mind for a while. The key explanation is hard nightmares last for only a moment. You scream, you wake up, you are scared, but it's over soon.

Soft nightmares last longer. It will not make you scream. It hardly has a jolting effect. But it will haunt you all throughout the following days. The threat is in your mind.

Soft nightmares crawl like little worms of evil in your brain, give you the creeps, and make you feel that something sinister will take place quite soon and there's nothing you can do about it.

You see her lay herself on the street and wait for the blood to flow. Then days later, you hear her saying "three months." You want to tell her to take care, but you don't want her to freak out. :(
RSS feed @ http://dreamclips.blogspot.com/atom.xml

Kitten, Electricity

In my dream just hours ago, I saw myself playing with kittens.

I'm in the old house in Silang (Again!!!) and Nanay's there, too, alive. (I've had dreams when I knew she's passed on.)

I play with the kittens and then I get slighlty electrocuted by one one of them as I hold one in my hands.

Kitten seems to be mad at me.

Seeing a white <--Nah!--> kitten in your dream means deceit and trouble. Seeing non-white <--Orange!--> or soiled kittens, indicates trouble ahead for you. <--Yaiks!-->

Dreaming of electricity, symbolizes vigor and life energy. You need to be revitalized. Dreaming that the electricity is out indicates your lack of insight and perspective on a situation.

From Hyperdictionary.Com.

Dreaming of wild animals is a good omen for business, but their attitude is important. If they were calm, it's a good sign, but if they were fighting or attacking you, it could mean trouble.

An electric shock signals some surprising news is on the way. Turning on the power means it's time to call in a favor. Turning it off means you need a vacation. A power failure is a hint that you are wasting your energy.

From KEEN Astrology

If I'd take the dream meanings above in perspective, I guess the message is pretty simple: I need a JOLT to avoid trouble.

Isn't the JOLTing the trouble itself?

I know where I need to really focus on right now.

Working on it.

***

Interpereted a dream of a stranger in MySpace. Inside the UPLB campus!

Perhaps such subconscious thought was influenced by a conversation with a classmate who was deliberately looking for people whose third eye was open.

That conversation happened about a month ago, though. (Mid-September, while rushing a project.)

Anyhow, in the dream, I am with some friends (who I can't remember after waking up) and I'm telling them that my third eye has opened, as if I was expecting it all along.

I'd digress - this dream may also be influenced by the fact that I chatted with people on the Astrology room @ Yahoo Messenger.

Back to the dream, I'm seeing mostly lady ghosts, in white plain and flowing long dresses.

Now as far as MSN Keen Astrology is concerned, my dream means:

GHOST

The meaning varies depending upon the action of the ghost. A silent visitation is an omen of good luck (<--NICE-->)but if the ghost spoke to you (<--NO. Good.-->), it is a warning that you will be pressured to join in an activity that goes against your basic beliefs. Stand firm. A ghost wearing white is a sign of good health, but black predicts peculiar behavior from your lover. It could cause a rift between you.

In Hyperdictionary says:

In general, ghosts symbolizes aspects of yourself that you fear. This may involve a painful memory, guilt, or some repressed thoughts. You may be afraid of death and dying. Alternatively, ghosts are representative of something that is no longer obtainable or within reach. It indicates a feeling of disconnection from life and society. (<--Interesting!-->) This dream may be a calling for you to move on and abandon your outdated modes of thinking and behavior. Dreaming that you reach out to touch a ghost, but it disappears indicates that you are taking steps to acknowledging some painful or repressed thoughts even though you are not ready to fully confront them. Seeing the ghost of a living relative or friend in your dream means that you are in danger of malice acts by that person. Seeing the ghost of a dead friend/relative in your dream, suggests guilt and regrets concerning the past relationships with that particular person.

My take is that I dreamt of the ghosts because of the aforementioned influences. And also because I feel dead inside :(
RSS feed @ http://dreamclips.blogspot.com/atom.xml

My parents

I recently dreamt of my parents. Both of them.

It shouldn't be a big deal, I dream of my parents all the time!

(They both have passed away. My father in 1997; my mother, in 2004.)

But the thing is, I have never dreamt of them TOGETHER. I would dream of my mother, I would dream of my father, but in all of those dreams, they're *never* together. Ever.

So now I'm thinking, could it be possible that they have finally ran into to each other in Heaven? Finally? Is the dream meant to send me the message that yes, they are together again?

That dream reminded me of the cool Eric Clapton song:
Would you know my name if I saw you in Heaven...
RSS feed @ http://dreamclips.blogspot.com/atom.xml

Why do we dream?

Why do we dream? What is the effect if we do not dream?

Dreaming is apparently necessary for our psychical health, as well as for our general well-being.

In a scientific study conducted in the ’70s at the Maimonides Dream Laboratory of the Maimonides General Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, pioneer dream researchers Dr. Montague Ullman and Dr. Stanley Krippner found that everybody averaged 30 dreams an evening.

They then tried to find out what would happen if people were deprived of dreams. They woke up a person as soon as s/he started to dream.
They could tell when a person was dreaming through the brain waves and the rapid-eye movement that indicated a dream was taking place.

After weeks of preventing subjects from dreaming, the researchers found that these people developed nervousness, irritability, depression, and other emotional and psychological problems.
The symptoms disappeared as soon as they stopped interrupting the natural dreaming process.

As answered by Jaime Licauco in his column in the Philippine Daily Inquirer. column link here
RSS feed @ http://dreamclips.blogspot.com/atom.xml

Chasing Dream

In my dream, I take something that is not mine. Suffering is much worse when you're dreaming -- where you're confronted by your Self without distractions; where you can't hide or deny or apologize. If you've had dreams where you're crying, you can give 'helpless' a new meaning. And even when the dreams are indeed sweet, you still wake up crying because you can't love as freely as you love in your dreams. Then you start the day with such thoughts. It seems you can't tell your self who NOT to love just as much as love can't touch you when you blatantly reject it. But how do you set yourself free without getting hurt?
RSS feed @ http://dreamclips.blogspot.com/atom.xml

Old Friends

I saw my childhood friend Kel in my dreams last night. And I think I had a lucid dream episode but it happened rather too quickly and I can't recall the details now. The past nights have been about old friends; perhaps that's because I'm being surrounded by a lot of strangers in my waking hours. Maybe my subconscious is trying to imprint the faces of people I know to counter the loneliness caused by drowning in a sea of strangers and passers-by.
RSS feed @ http://dreamclips.blogspot.com/atom.xml

REM Sleep

Researchers say that the dreams we get during a Rapid eye movement (REM) phase in our sleep can be more easily recalled compared to non-REM dreams.

There is one dream about E that I will never, never forget. It's what I call the Pavillion Dream. Of course it has to be strange -- it's a dream after all! In the dream, I am walking on the street leading to the public market of my hometown, then I saw some colored crepe papers dancing with the wind on the street, lining like a trail to somewhere. I follow the trail and it leads to an elevated pavillion, about 6 feet from the ground. I see a boy wearing glasses, he looks sadly at me, then walks down. That boy is my X bf. He did look younger in the dream, tho. Then after him, another X descends, this time he is followed by some of my classmates. I clearly see D in the scene. Then when it is clear to me that there is only one person left in the pavillion, he descends the steps, smiling, and I welcome him with wide open arms.

We embrace in joy and I am overwhelmed by a mix of emotions. The next scene shows a high school reunion, where classmates ask if he has popped the question yet. In wakelife, these classmates, G and K, bumped into us in the town plaza when we sort of dated for the first time many, many years ago. (Now I actually got confused there 'cause I thought it should have been made clear in the embrace that there's no point in popping the question anymore.)

This dream, which I had about 2 or 3 years ago, must've been a rather potent REM dream. Wiki says, "It is common to wake for a short time at the end of a REM phase." And I did wake up at about 2 a.m. after that dream. I woke up smiling and at peace. I prayed to God, "Let it happen, please."

Wiki also states that "people awakened during REM usually feel alert and refreshed. " Indeed, I felt fully alert and positively refreshed. It was a very beautiful dream.

I miss him now. I'm missing him and I have no idea where he is now. I know there's a chance that I'll get frustrated with him again. But we've been through a lot. I now know how much I can endure. And it's limitless. I am not optimistic for a happy ending. It is just clear to me now that between him and me, there is no chance for a bitter ending; because we're good friends. Whether he ends with someone else or I actually hook up with my big crush now, nothing can change the sweet bonding we have. So if ever I will end up with this good friend, I know life can't be too bad.

Maybe the dream has something to do with the fact that he did ask me to marry him over 3 years ago. This, I can clearly remember because it was my birthday. He didn't actually ask, he just said I should marry him instead of my then boyfriend, who was also <slash>asking</slash> pressuring me for a quick civil wedding. E read the boyfriend's text message on my phone, which was a follow up on the verbal proposal. In reaction, he said I should marry him instead. I didn't take it seriously. I knew he couldn't be serious, too. After all, he was in a relationship, too. Still, I played along and asked him -- When? He paused for a while, then he said, "2008." I said OK. And I was more than just half-serious. But I know it won't be too easy. Ever. Especially since I couldn't find the guts to break up with my boyfriend then. He, on the other hand, had a girlfriend whose life revolved around him and him alone.

I am 95% certain that E has forgotten all about 2008. The other 5% is praying for the Universe to remind him of it. Only if it's gonna be good for us.
RSS feed @ http://dreamclips.blogspot.com/atom.xml

E. In another "episode," JojoP is there; we're in the old house. We are playing poker!!! Yet I don't know how to play the game and I am aware of it (in the dream)... The stakes are high...

Let's see what Keen Dreams will say.

POKER
Playing cards or watching a card game should serve as a general warning to be careful with your money. However, specific cards in certain suits have individual meanings that should be taken into account. The meanings for the face cards are as follows: King Clubs: You will receive assistance from a friend. Diamonds: You are in danger from an older man in a position of power. Hearts: You have found, or will soon find, true love. Spades: You will encounter opposition in attempting to achieve your goals. Queen Clubs: You need to straighten out your complicated love life. Diamonds: You will receive some good news concerning property. Hearts: You can expect to receive some happy romantic news. Spades: A misplaced confidence will lead to a nagging worry. Jack Clubs: You could suffer a loss through deceit and trickery. Diamonds: You will be receiving a gift or inheritance. Hearts: A new romance will make you very happy. Spades: There is a rival working against you.

CAR
The accelerator is often a symbol for control issues in your life. If you have a driving dream in which you are controlling the car's increasing speed, it means you will achieve your goals through hard work and perseverance. But if you dream that the accelerator is stuck and the car is out of control, it should be taken as a warning about a habit that could turn into an addiction.

***

"If you're going to understand human behavior," says Rosalind Cartwright, a chairman of psychology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, "here's a big piece of it. Dreaming is our own storytelling time—to help us know who we are, where we're going and how we're going to get there."

***

Why do I have vivid dreams all night long, every single night, while others say they never dream?

Barbara Kantrowitz: Unless you've had a brain injury or are taking certain kinds of medication, you dream every night. However, it is true that some people remember their dreams and others don't. There are many reasons for this, but researchers say that generally people who are more introverted and more psychologically oriented are more likely to remember their dreams. More practical people—doers rather than thinkers—are less likely to remember their dreams. You're also more likely to remember your dreams if you get a good night's sleep and wake up naturally (without an alarm).

Barbara Kantrowitz has been an editor and writer at NEWSWEEK since 1985.
